Blog Post #31: More Resilience Skills
To be resilient we need to continue to use humor appropriately. Whether humor is "sick" or "dark" often depends on the setting. Laughter has healing properties. God knows there's enough to laugh about with some of the foolish things that are being done. Many of the characters from the clown car that are running our government deserve to be laughed at.
It is important during this time to take care of ourselves in terms of diet, exercise and good habits financially. We often don't take very good care of ourselves when we are under stress…Make a smart plan for managing these areas of your life. This means making a plan that is specific.
What exactly are you going to do?
Measurable, how will you know when you've done it?
Attainable, things that you are capable of doing.
Realistic, having the time and resources to do what you have planned.
Time specific, when will you start and finish?
Last of all we need to be able to care for others physically and emotionally. Occupations and volunteer activities that involve caring for others can often build our resilience. These include such things as volunteering in a shelter or food bank. This can help us as much as it helps others.
There other attitudes and skills that aren't included in this list that can build resilience. Give some thought to what these are.
